About Apron

NBA salary intelligence built on real CBA rules.

What is Apron?

Apron is an NBA front office intelligence platform. It gives basketball fans, analysts, and media professionals the ability to ask real front office questions: trade feasibility, salary cap implications, and apron status. Every answer is grounded in actual CBA rules, not approximations.

Data & Accuracy

Salary data covers all 30 teams with confirmed contracts through the 2026-27 season, including multi-year projections up to 5 years per player. Contract option flags (player options, team options, early termination options) and real trade exceptions are tracked for all 30 teams. During the offseason, Apron automatically uses 2026-27 cap thresholds for all calculations. Under 5% of queries may be affected by contracts not yet officially confirmed. Roster moves and signings after the last data update may not be reflected.

How It Works

  • 1Salary data is sourced and updated periodically from Basketball Reference and Hoops Rumors
  • 2CBA rules are encoded directly into the system: salary matching thresholds, first and second apron restrictions, traded player exceptions, and hard cap triggers
  • 3Queries are processed by Claude (Anthropic), with CBA math handled by a deterministic rules engine, not AI guesswork
  • 4Simple queries use a lightweight model; complex trade validations use a more powerful model automatically
